If you’re a coach, or you’re new to creating online courses then I’m willing to bet you’ve heard this annoying little voice in your head saying, “What if my course is not good enough?” Or, “What if people don’t get results when they take my course?” “What if people buy it, and they don’t like it, and they ask for their money back?” Or, “Maybe I should add a done-for-you service, so I can really make sure that they get results because I’m gonna do it for them.”

Sounds familiar? Yeah, I hear it a lot, and it’s perfectly normal to feel that way when you’re launching something new. Today we’re gonna talk about some strategies you can use to quiet that voice a little bit, and to get back into that passion that you had when you first had the idea to create and online course, so that we can get your course out there to the world, launch it with gusto, and get it into the hands of the people who need it the most. And let them decide if it’s good enough or not.

Here’s the thing about that voice. That voice is rooted in judgment. It’s rooted in judgment of ourselves, and it’s rooted in judgment of other people, which means that when we feel judged by other people it’s probably because there’s a bit of judgment going on inside us.

So let’s talk about how we’re judging ourselves first. If creating an online course is new to you, I want you to know that it’s perfectly normal to feel afraid and insecure. You probably felt the same way in other areas of your life where you’ve gone on to be massively successful, but it didn’t start out that way. Over the years you just saw the evidence of the good work that you’re doing, and that built your confidence. And here you are doing something brand new that you have no evidence of that you’re good at, so of course, you’re gonna feel scared and a little bit insecure and wonder will it be good enough. That’s normal. Relax, accept it. Chances are if you’re gonna be the judge of how good your course is, you’re never gonna put it out there.

So here’s the thing. You have got to just put it out there, and let your students decide. And ask yourself what is the absolute worst thing that can happen, and if that thing happened will I be able to handle it. And really think about it. I mean, what is the worst thing that can happen if you put your online course out there, and people buy it?

Now, let’s talk about those coaching programmes, those online programmes, those training sessions, the group programmes that we’ve joined that we felt maybe didn’t quite deliver on the promise we thought it would, or didn’t get us the results we thought we were gonna get. Now, I can raise my hand and say I have definitely had that experience, and I’m sure plenty of you can say that you’ve had that experience too.

But here’s the problem with that, as soon as we put the responsibility for our results on someone else, and we don’t get the results we want, we’re going to blame them, and with that comes judgment. And there you see, there it’s born. It’s that “Well, I bought your course, and I didn’t get the results I was hoping I would get. And now I’m judging the online course creator, which in turn makes me really scared that people are gonna judge my course.” Do you see how that works?

So the problem with this is we can never ever put the responsibility for us to make something work onto any coach or course creator. It is always 100% up to us the results we’re gonna get with the tools that are available to us. There is no way we can judge other course creators or coaches and hold them accountable for our results without that coming back to bite us in the butt. I have three tips for you for how to overcome that voice in your head that tells you, “Ugh, what if my course isn’t good enough?”

The first thing is to acknowledge the fear without judgment. When you hear that voice come up, just say to yourself, “Oh, hi. It’s my monkey mind.” Or you can call it your nonsense talker or anything you want that distinguishes that voice as a different entity from your identity because it’s not your identity, it’s just your thought. It’s not who you are, it’s just your thought. So just let the thought pass you by without judging it, and just say, “Oh, hey. Fear is here. Hey, Fear. Keep moving. Thank you.” You know? Just let it be what it is, and don’t feel the need to have to squash it in any way. If you just let it be, it will disappear by itself.

The second thing is to think about your ideal client and the pain that they’re in right now. Or the pleasure that they really want once they have the results that you’ve got in your life or in your business. Keep them in mind. It’s easy to start making things about us when we feel like the world’s eyes are on us, but remember why you got into this in the first place. It was to make a difference. It was to help someone and give someone else the tools that you wish you had when you started out. So keep thinking about that person. Keep thinking that they stay stuck in the place where they are until you have the guts to step up and teach them. So keep them in mind.

And thirdly, and this is probably the most powerful one, make a list of all the online marketers and course creators that you need to forgive. Make a list of those people that you gave your power away to. Make a list of those people that you entered this relationship where you’re expecting them to give you the results you want. You got exactly what you needed at the time you were ready to get it, and your result is always 100% up to you. So sit down, forgive people you need to forgive that have brought up that judgment inside your own heart, and then see how the judgment will disappear from your life as well.
